Cork-based band Pebbledash have just released a live acoustic version of their track ‘Carraig Aonair’ which was performed and recorded in the cavernous interior of St. Luke’s church on the Northern Hill overlooking Cork city. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Enda Boyle. Videography by Daniel Hurley.
Carraig Aonair (Live at St.Lukes) is Pebbledash’s faithful live representation of their song Carraig Aonair which was featured in Netflix’s House of Guinness exactly one year before the release of this version of the track. This interpretation of the song is Pebbledash at their noisiest yet most vulnerable with Asha Egan McCutcheon’s vocals dancing about the layers of synths and bowed guitar, swirling and crashing around the stained glass and church organ poised on the altar where the performance took place.
This track is part of a series of live reimagined recordings, including the inclusion of their tracks ‘Killer Lover’ and ‘Cell’ in the BLAB003 cassette (Order Here).
Speaking on the track Fionnbharr Hickey (vocals / guitar) says, “This song has been really special to our history as a band, in many ways it was the point of departure from where everything we make today started, It has been a mainstay in our set and the point for me where I can particularly get lost in the sonics of the song and get transported away into the feedback and bowed overtones. The first time I heard this song was when Asha sang it at a gig before she was in the band and she was actually supporting an earlier iteration of Pebbledash. Something just clicked in my head that this was what the band needed, and by bringing her delicate and detailed vocals into our world of noise and atmosphere would allow for what we had been chasing after for a while to become real. Getting to record it in such an important venue to us as St Lukes In Cork after what the band and the song has grown through over the past 2 years was really a beautiful moment.”
