Fresh off their headline tour, Scottish four-piece newshapes reveal their latest single, rescue light, the final track of their 3-track EP somehow i still believe out now via LAB Records. Listen to the EP here and watch the official video for rescue light here.
Their new single rescue light serves as a love letter to 2000’s post-hardcore, drawing influence from the likes of Saosin and Underoath, it’s one of newshapes fastest, most intense and deliberate tracks. The influences run deep, even down to the guitars tuned to the teenage classic of drop D. Having been a fan favourite during their recent live performances, the energy of the song has been transferred into the recording and will give fans a taste of what to expect from their upcoming shows.
Shot by CheckOneCheckTwo Media, the official video for rescue light captures newshapes at their most urgent and volatile. Bathed in stark shadows and flashing cuts, the video throws the viewer directly into the chaos of the track, matching every frantic riff and crashing breakdown with relentless intensity. Watch the official video now here.
The song follows on from their previous singlesfalling away and baptise, offering a much heavier sound with intense vocals to complete the trilogy of somehow i still believe. Continuing to make their stamp on the UK’s alternative scene, the EP is a cathartic exploration of faith and betrayal. Combining their influences of emo, post-hardcore and indie throughout its three tracks, somehow i still believe introduces the story of an individual battling with the loss of their faith and features themes of anger, hopelessness and responses of bargaining.
Speaking of performing live newshapes said “rescue light is how we’ve opened our shows this year, and it opens the EP for a reason. It’s probably the most relentlessly aggressive we’ve been in a song, and it’s one that fires us up and gets us in the headspace we need to be in to go out and show people what we can do, whether they’re in the room with us or listening elsewhere.”
Having recently finished a tour with Never Easy and Love Is Noise across Europe and the UK, newshapes are quickly becoming one of the UK’s most promising forces in heavy-hitting alternative music. Signing to LAB Records, last year’s sophomore EP, a conversation with myself, has now amassed over a million streams on Spotify alone.
