I always thought one of the best things about going on tour…apart from getting to travel with your band mates and see how your songs are received in other cities/cultures…was getting to return home knowing you have completed it, and having the time to reflect on everything that had happened along the way.
I can only imagine this to be extra special when you come back to two sold out gigs in a venue jam packed with your biggest and most loyal fans.
This must’ve been what it was like for New Dad when they walked onstage for the first of their two homecoming gigs in The Button Factory, Dublin, on 28th Feb.
The Galway band are one of my favourite new(ish) bands to come out of the Irish music scene of late. The way they effortlessly occupied the stage and every inch of the building with their huge low-fi, shoegaze, indie rock/pop sound would lead you to believe that they have been touring and recording for longer than they have, and you would be forgiven for assuming they had more than just their debut album, ‘Madra’, under their belt.
This is a very good thing, however, as they are a band who are swiftly on the rise and there is still time for you to jump on the New Dad bandwagon and join them. From the fact that they’re gonna need an even bigger venue for the next time, you won’t be alone either.
