Martin Luke Brown – marks new era with new single ‘back of my mind’

Martin Luke Brown has today unveiled new single ‘back of my mind’ via Bright Antenna Records, his first new music since last year’s critically acclaimed sophomore album man oh man ! Written and produced with long-time collaborator and Grammy-winning Matt Zara (Olivia Dean, Teddy Swims, Lola Young), the track is released alongside a characterful visualiser, directed by Dana Trippe (Tame Impala, DJO, HAIM, Suki Waterhouse).

A personal archaeology of the heart, ‘back of my mind’ sits where warm, country-adjacent tones meet subtle psych textures. Twangy guitar moments, lo-fi vocals, and bluesy trills flourish throughout, yet the track hooks itself like a pop earworm, blending retro charm with a fresh energy.

“’back of my mind’ is about how love can linger after a relationship has ended. it’s about the emotional clutter we carry with us as we age – the first date cinema tickets in the back of the drawer or old scribbled confessions in journals. it’s about all the people that were once important and therefore always will be.” – Martin Luke Brown

The latest offering from the artist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist sees him expand on his signature indie-soul palette toward janky-yet-tender soundscapes and cracked-out country, richly influenced by 60s and 70s classics.

Redefining the contours of his artistry, this sonic shift draws on a genre tradition that balances light-hearted musicality with a deep awareness of life’s pain – a tension that mirrors the playful yet existential spirit fans have come to love in Martin as an artist.

‘back of my mind’ captures Martin’s signature ability to straddle the line between grief and joy, creating songs that are at once heartfelt, whimsical, and profoundly human. Simultaneously sad and silly, Martin approaches songwriting with both humour and reflection, embracing life’s absurdities while confronting its deeper questions.

The single is released as Martin concludes his UK/EU tour with Madison Cunnigham, a sixteen-date run which included a packed-out show at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
