Irish Electropop sensation Lyra was originally announced to play just one night at Kilkenny’s magnificent Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre, but there was such a demand for tickets and the night sold-out so fast that a second night had to be put on! which in turn sold-out also, I would think if a third night had of been put in place it to would have sold-out, but that was not possible.
So the crowd were not only blessed with two fantastic performances from both Lyra and support act Dave Lofts, they also got some great weather as it seemed the summer had started at last with two lovely balmy evenings.
Dave kicked things off on both nights at 8pm with a nice laid back eight song set, for those that might not know. Dave is a Singer/Songwriter based in Waterford city and plays some fine soul-stirring acoustic tunes that just seemed to blend in well with the surroundings of the old quarry.
After Dave there was a short break and 9pm came round and bang in a haze of smoke and lights Lyra appeared from stage left to take her place upon the top of a set of gold and red steps that were set at the beck of the stage and wasting no time in setting the mood for her set in was straight into her hit Chess, after this she was front of stage and going hell for leather belting out track after track to the delight of everyone there on both nights.
By the end of her set everyone were on their feet (well to be truthful it was long before then) either at their seats or the brave ones had ventured down the amphitheatre steps to the area at the front of stage and were giving it their all.
Over all what more can be said on the two nights, just that all went away happy and hoping that Lyra will be back next year to do it all again.
