Johnny Marr / The Clockworks – live gallery and review from Iveagh Gardens, Dublin 10.07.2026

The beautiful Iveagh Gardens provided the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening of live music, as Johnny Marr headlined one of Dublin’s standout summer concerts. With temperatures lingering in the high twenties and the sun slowly setting over the gardens, it was hard to imagine a better setting for an outdoor gig.

Opening the night were Galway born, London based alternative quartet The Clockworks. The band brought plenty of energy to the stage, delivering a confident and powerful set that immediately won over the early crowd. Their sharp songwriting, driving rhythms and passionate performance made them the ideal support act, setting the tone perfectly for the evening ahead.

As Johnny Marr took to the stage, the atmosphere lifted another level. From the opening song, the former Smiths guitarist demonstrated exactly why he remains one of Britain’s most respected and influential musicians. Backed by an excellent band, Marr delivered a set packed with energy, superb musicianship and genuine enthusiasm that never dipped throughout the performance.

One of the night’s greatest strengths was the balance of the setlist. Marr expertly mixed material from his successful solo career with a generous selection of songs from The Smiths, ensuring both long time fans and newer listeners were equally satisfied. Hearing those iconic guitar riffs performed live reminded everyone just how timeless his songwriting and musicianship remain. The crowd responded enthusiastically throughout, singing along to every familiar chorus while embracing the newer material with equal appreciation.

There was also room for a surprise, with Marr treating the audience to an excellent cover of Iggy Pop’s classic “The Passenger.” It was a fitting addition to the set, performed with both respect for the original and Marr’s own distinctive style. The song quickly became one of the evening’s highlights.

The atmosphere throughout the concert was warm, relaxed and celebratory. Long time fans and younger concertgoers all came together to enjoy a performance that showcased both Marr’s remarkable legacy and his continuing relevance as a solo artist. Combined with the stunning surroundings of the Iveagh Gardens and the glorious summer weather, it felt like one of those special concerts where everything came together perfectly.

Johnny Marr delivered a live performance which proved that his music continues to resonate across generations. Supported by an impressive opening set from The Clockworks, this was a memorable summer evening that those in attendance are unlikely to forget anytime soon.
