Joe Philpott – debuts new song inspired by his memoir All Roads Lead To Where You Are

Following the success of his memoir launch last year, Irish musician Joe Philpott returns with All Roads Lead To Where You Are, a single that serves as a musical companion to his acclaimed memoir. The song carries the emotional weather of the book – tracing long miles, memories, and quiet reckonings gathered across a life lived on the road. It’s about hard-won perspective, reflection and discovering who you are along the way, offering a fresh way into Philpott’s story through sound.

Written as a reflection on years spent travelling across America, the song evokes night drives between cities, radio static, motel rooms, friendships, mistakes, and the strange intimacy of distance. It captures the slow understanding that every wrong turn and broken string still belongs to the journey.

“As with the book, the song isn’t about arriving anywhere,” Philpott says, It’s about what happens along the way – the miles, the silences, the wrong turns, and the people you become because of them.”

Musically, the single is spacious and restrained, allowing the lyrics breathe. Longtime White Horse Guitar Club collaborator Liam Óg Fitzgerald delivers lead vocals with quiet authority. The track was recorded and mixed by Philpott’s Rubyhorse bandmate Declan Lucey, with Humphrey Murphy on double bass, resulting in a recording that feels intimate, lived-in, and unforced.

Philpott’s memoir chronicles his extraordinary journey from suburban Cork to American stages, from backroom rehearsals to recording with George Harrison. A lyrical exploration of music, migration, and memoryAll Roads Lead to Where You Are captures both the exhilaration of chasing a dream and the ache of leaving home. It’s a story of risk, reinvention, and finding your way back to what matters.

A founding member of Rubyhorse, whose song Punchdrunk” was recorded with George Harrison, Philpott has toured internationally and shared stages with R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, and Def Leppard. In recent years he has expanded his work beyond performance, developing innovative music projects in education, healthcare and community settings. Alongside his memoir, he continues performing with The White Horse Guitar Club, whose rich harmonies and reinterpretations of folk, Americana, and Irish song remain central to his musical life.
