Jack Kaye today releases his debut solo single ‘Dora‘ – out now on Fascination Street Records. It’s been six years since Jack Kaye last released music as frontman of The Magic Gang. The much-loved group went their separate ways at the height of their powers, with two top twenty albums, countless international festivals and a sold out Camden Roundhouse under their belts. For Jack, what followed was a period of self reflection, reconciliation and experimentation, in music as in life. He followed old passions down new paths, collaborated with others, started a family and eventually, slowly but surely, rediscovered his voice. Jack will headline The George Tavern in London on Sept 9th, tickets here.
On the new single, Dora, Jack Kaye says – “I had writer’s block for a long time after the band broke up. Wheels were spinning; I was trying to figure out what I was even doing musically. So I decided to take myself out of my own head. I started to write this song, loosely based on a friend’s relationship. Once I got into that storytelling mindset, it became fun again and everything flowed.”
On the video (directed by Josh Cray), Jack continues – “We shot the video at a boxing gym I used to go to when I was a kid. My friend Josh, who I’ve known since we were 11, directed it. We bought a bubble machine, got our mate’s Dad to play the trainer and had at it. It was the most fun I’ve had in ages and a relief after taking things so seriously for so long.“
