Irish psychedelic hip-hop band Shakalak – release new single ‘Chipper’

Shakalak are an Irish psychedelic hip-hop band who have built a dedicated cult following over the last number of years. Their music is built with live electronic beats, synthesisers,  psychedelic electric guitar, and saxophone, coupled with the lyrical dexterity of poet John Cummins. They have performed sold out headline shows in Dublin (Whelan’s, Workman’s Club, Grand Social, Button Factory) and many other venues and festivals around Ireland.

Chipper is a witty, groovy, tongue in cheek tribute to the ritual feast of the Chipper, in both the daytime and nighttime.

Chipper is an old poem that has found a new home as a shakalak track.

It holds warm memories and it makes me smile to think back…

The first verse is lunch o’clock, the second verse is night.

Same chipper, twice in the same day – don’t judge me, alright?!

With my daughter for verse one – my sisters for verse two.

Then went home and wrote the poem – that’s what poet’s do…

Chipper, the song, is a funky, almost punky, playful ode to the places and people that matter…

I swear when you listen to it now, you can almost taste the batter…
