Irish noise rock outfit anemoia – return with intense new guitar driven single ‘Gesso’

anemoia are a Dublin-based noise rock band exploring the raw and suffocating underside of nostalgia, playing and developing the title name. Originally a solo project based in County Mayo, it first shaped their sound through Tascam tape recordings and a niche SoundCloud fanbase before evolving into a heavier, more dissonant force.

Based in Dublin, anemoia channels inner conflict rather than observation, creating music that feels like second-guessing itself in real time. Their work draws from film, anxiety, and the disillusionment of growing up, where vocals drift as texture and meaning emerges through atmosphere rather than clarity. Their sound is rawer, more abrasive, and increasingly focused on pushing the boundaries of what a guitar band can be.

The band have built a growing reputation for intense, immersive live performances and a strong visual identity, incorporating strange imagery into their recent shows. In the past 10 months since their last single, they have supported They Are Gutting a Body of Water on their first sold-out European date, and have performed at Whelan’s One’s to Watch, MCD Productions Issue Nights, and most recently supporting Chaepter on their European tour, playing in Dublin & Cork.

Their previous single ‘downer’ received international radio and streaming support, including plays on Radio X and RTÉ 2FM (Dan Hegarty), alongside wider critical acclaim.

‘Written last September as a quick Logic Pro demo, gesso clicked immediately the moment it hit the rehearsal room, quickly becoming the crucial piece of the puzzle that unlocked both the band’s sonic identity and the broader concept for their upcoming unannounced EP.

Taking inspiration from the raw energy of the Philadelphia noise rock/post hardcore scene, and early pioneers of the genre like Dinosaur Jr., the track spent time sitting in the vault before being mixed at Windmill Lane with engineer AJ Das. The final track bridges DIY home recordings with a polished studio mix, heavy on experimental recording techniques, layered guitar feedback, and clever spatial audio shifts. A key moment comes during the song’s climax, where room-mic drum bleed is subtly morphed into a close-miked direct signal, driving home the track’s sense of structural disintegration.’
