Irish indie folk artist Anamoe Drive – will release sublime sophomore album ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ on Fri 7th Nov with focus track ‘Diamond Effigy’

anamoe drive is the solo moniker of songwriter & multi-instrumentalists Oisín Leahy Furlong (also known as lead singer for Dublin psych-pop band THUMPER).

His sophomore album ‘thank god it’s friday’ will be released on Fri 7th Nov ahead of it’s launch show at The Grand Social Ballroom in Dublin on Thurs 13th Nov with support from Holly Munro.

His debut album ‘Breakfast in Bed‘ released via Faction Records garnering international attention from KEXP, BBC and more for it’s distinct brand of lo-fi indie meets alt folk and led to him  opening for The Murder Capital, Palehound and Carter Vail, as well as performing at Electric Picnic, All Together Now, and Kaleidoscope Festival and making his TV debut on Fanning at Whelans (Virgin Media) alongside Villagers, Kingfishr etc

‘In the depths of winter last year myself and my friend Ian McFarlane (who plays bass in the anamoe drive live band), sat down and recorded 11 songs in 2 days, almost knee to knee in Ian’s tiny studio. We then mixed everything, and bounced it onto reel to reel tape with engineer Rian Trench. The resulting songs are short, intimate, and lean – a direct reaction to the expansiveness of my first album Breakfast in Bed. I think when I was younger the idea of making epic, sprawling 7 minute songs sounds like the pinnacle of songwriting. It was albums like “Dawn” by Mount Eerie, or “The Bunkhouse Vol. 1” by Fionn Regan that really hammered home the value of something concise and personal.

With that in mind we took a cut throat approach to the arrangements of these songs. Virtually every intro, outro or double chorus was removed – leaving only the most succinct incarnations.

Through the recording process that theme of directness seemed to emerge from the songs themselves. Each song contains a very small moment, preserved just long enough before moving on to the next. It felt liberating to give voice to these moments, as many of these songs have been floating around my head for years. Others were written only weeks before we hit record. thank god it’s friday gives all of these small songs a final resting place.’
