Irish (Cork) band Pebbledash – have just released their latest single ‘Tiles and Moss

Cork risers Pebbledash announce the upcoming EP To Cast the Sea in Concrete (5th November) & release anticipated new single ‘Tiles & Moss’. Having gained widespread acclaim across tastemaker press and support across BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X and RTE, the single comes ahead of the band’s stint as part of The So Young Tour

Recorded by Cathal MacGabhann (Altered Hours) mixed by Andy Killian (Pretty Happy), the new single showcases more of the band’s unique blend of post-punk aesthetics, blended with emotive shoegaze and grunge tendencies. Capturing the essence of Pebbledash’s evolving sound, encapsulating a year of growth, change, and reflection for the band, ‘Tiles & Moss’ highlights Pebbledash’s continued evolution, blending atmospheric tendencies with an undertone of Irish folk and a gritty, grungey finish.

The track opens with a wall of crunching guitars, swelling drones, and propulsive drums, before descending into a shadowed verse where the band entwines their signature dual vocals, ghosting in and out of one another until they resolve into a luminous harmony. As it unfolds, tension simmers beneath the surface, gathering momentum, until the closing moments surge into a climactic finale: guitars roaring beneath delicate, whimsical lead vocals that shimmer like light breaking through a storm.

Talking about the ‘Tiles and Moss’, Cormac Donovan O’Neill explains:
“It was vital to us that when we brought Tiles and Moss to the studio, we would do it justice, as it’s been a stalwart of our live set for so long. As a song, we’ve always felt it’s quintessential Pebbledash, exploring so many sides of what makes up our musical DNA – the lurching, serrated texture of the guitars combined with Fionnbharr’s rapid-fire lyrical delivery recalling an Isn’t Anything-era my bloody valentine, Schuch’s pared-back drumbeat reminiscent of Sister or Daydream Nation. Spending four days in the studio living with these tracks encouraged us to really dig into the potential of these arrangements’ textural elements; underpinning Tiles and Moss you can hear the low hum and wheeze of a charity shop-find harmonium breathing throughout, that acoustic voice meshing in with the synthesiser, as much evoking Neu and Cluster as it does the sonorous pipes of Paddy Keenan and Liam O’Flynn.”

The song’s lyrics are done in the style of a murder balled but rather than a traditional balled of this style we took a more introspective focus trying to address self irritation or contempt and overcoming this frustration throughout the song, its a battle im sure most people are familiar with this vicious cycle of self sabotage and we articulate that struggle here!”
