Hotel Lux – share new single ‘Joy’. Their new album ‘The Bitter Cup’ in November

Hotel Luxtoday share new single Joy, taken from their second album ‘The Bitter Cup‘, which will be released November 14th. The band have recently enjoyed radio success with Steve Lamacq at BBC 6Music and Jo Whiley at BBC Radio 2 being big supporters. 

The band’s 2023 debut album Hands Across The Creek won an abundance of press support, from the likes of: Dork, The GuardianMojoUncutDIY L&QClashSo YoungNME. BBC 6Music playlists were also achieved. The new album marks a new chapter for the band; after talking time to rediscover their identities, both as musicians and as a bunch of mates heading into their late twenties. 

On the new single, Hotel Lux say: 

Joy was one of the first songs we wrote for the album, and was completed in one session in our old practice space. The relentless nature of the tune seemed a natural fit to explore the heady and indulgent times of the past few years in South London, both celebrating and cursing the days and nights spent roving from Deptford to Peckham Rye

On ‘The Bitter Cup’, Hotel Lux took it upon themselves to self-produce. “Something that felt completely natural, but also entirely necessary” Guitarist Sam Coburn explains. Recorded at Big Jelly Studios, the band had enough confidence to lead on carving their own sound for this new record. “If you can’t trust yourselves, who can you?” guitarist Max Oliver adds.

Written completely collaboratively, and recorded live to replicate the emotional intensity of their live shows, this new record finds the band at their most vulnerable, while, also, at their most confident. The development is clear: within both their personal lives and as musicians. 

From early single ‘The Last Hangman’ which featured in a series of Peaky Blinders, to having Thomas Brodie-Sangster feature and lead in ‘Ballad of You & I’ video – a single from the band’s debut EP release on Nice Swan Records in 2020 – the band’s journey has been full of twists and turns. 

On the live front the band have always excelled, from multiple sold-out headline European tours, support tours with Shame, Soft Play, The Chats and many more – they are a band who bring pinpoint energy wherever they play. The next chapter begins here.
