Group A.D. today return with new single ‘Bird of Parallax’, their second offering of new music in 2026 and the follow up to their acclaimed debut EP ‘Colour Space Transform’. Following a run of sold out gigs in Leeds, Manchester and London, as well as support slots with English Teacher, ‘Bird of Parallax’ arrives as part of a double A-side single with second track ‘Sliinky’ following in October.
Group A.D. is a brand new Leeds based project. The name stands for The Group For Action & Dance, and their music sits somewhere between dubbed out, psychedelic no-wave and spaghetti-western orchestral maximalism.
On the new single, Aidan from the band says:
“This is our wildest track so far. We wrote ‘Bird of Parallax’ earlier this year in the hills of Andalusia. The studio was isolated, surrounded by almond fields, and we didn’t have any guitars- so we drove to the nearest town to borrow the only electric guitar in the area. The song started with a small loop containing the track’s eerie vocal sample and strange guitar slides, and soon mutated into something between abrasive machine-music and a 60’s film score theme.
One of the cornerstones of Group A.D. ‘s music is the presentation of musical ideas from several alternative viewpoints, often within the same song. The track’s lyric ‘bird of parallax / coming into view’ sums this up- a slight shift in position can completely change your perspective. The field cannot be seen well from within the field. Sometimes you need to shift your view…”
Throughout the song, samples punctuate – a bizarre computer narration blurting the track’s refrain, ravey, 90’s style vocal trills, and Group A.D.’s trademark spoken word in the track’s climax, declaring ‘this is the cutting age and the days of flower power are over’. They are indeed.
Both tracks will be available at independent record shops on limited 7” black vinyl, and an exclusive silver vinyl variant for Leeds’ iconic record shop, Jumbo Records, available to pre-order now.
