Gavin James / Codyy – live at The Big Top, Winterval Festival Waterford 21.12.2024

On a crisp December evening, just a few sleeps until the big day, Gavin James took to the stage at Winterval’s BIG TOP LIVE, delivering a performance that felt like the perfect soundtrack to what has been a wonderful festive season. Surrounded by the twinkling lights of the Big Top, just meters from the spectacular Glow Gardens, the audience were eager for a night of Gavin James. He did not disappoint! This show was a complete sell out, the Big Top was full and the Christmas feeling was in full flow.

The night kicked off with Waterford native Codyy, who brought his usual infectious energy to the crowd. His local roots and lively set made for a strong opening. Codyy who now spends a lot of his time in the UK, seemed delighted to be home for the season. He spent time speaking with friends, audience members and even another famous Waterford talent Dave Lofts.

Before Gavin James had even entered the stage the crowd were cheering his name. From the first note of “Heavy,” Gavin amplified that attention, drawing everyone into his world. Tracks like “Glow” and “Boxes” had the audience swaying and singing along, creating a buzzing atmosphere that was as electric as it was intimate.

As the setlist unfolded with hit after hit, highlights including “Once in a Lifetime” and “Storm Warning,” the tent grew louder and louder. Gavin’s take on “Jolene” added a unique twist to the night, met with huge cheers and a sing-along from the crowd.

The encore was where the holiday magic truly shone. “Bitter Pill” and “Always” brought the night to a powerful close, but it was the final song, “Fairytale of New York,” that became the nights special moment. With the audience singing every word, it really felt like a celebration of both music and the season. The festive cheer was undeniable, with the sense of togetherness that only “silly season” can bring. This was a special evening, Gavin James’ performance was the perfect way to spend a Saturday night where most people have now finished work for the holidays. Winterval’s BIG TOP LIVE delivered yet again, and those lucky enough to be there will surely be talking about it over the kitchen table this Christmas.
