First Class Rebel – emerges from the shadows with new single ‘Alive’ you can read our review here

With ‘Alive’ First Class Rebel cements himself as a compelling new voice in Ireland’s alternative underground. The project is the brainchild of Ian Burke, and this single feels less like a song and more like an experience a dense, immersive rush that pulls the listener into its swirling sonic universe from the opening seconds.

Blending the atmospheric haze of psych rock with the emotional weight of shoegaze, ‘Alive’ arrives as a lush wall of sound. Layered guitars wash over dreamy melodies, while distortion soaked reverb creates a sense of beautiful disorientation. There’s a hypnotic quality to the track, built on textures as much as tunes, inviting repeat listens to uncover new details buried beneath the surface.

Influences are worn proudly but never overpoweringly. Fans of The Jesus and Mary Chain will recognise the fuzzed-out romance, while echoes of Oasis’s melodic ambition and The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s psych wanderings drift through the mix. There’s also a darker edge reminiscent of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, paired with moments of cinematic expansiveness that nod toward Mogwai. Yet despite these touchstones, First Class Rebel manages to carve out a sound that feels personal and emotionally grounded.

What really sets ‘Alive’ apart is its balance between chaos and clarity. The guitars may crash and swirl, but there’s a strong melodic core holding everything together. Burke’s songwriting taps into a sense of yearning and release, making the track feel both introspective and euphoric perfect for late night drives or headphone heavy listening sessions.

Alive is a confident statement from First Class Rebel, showcasing Ian Burke’s ability to fuse classic alternative influences with a modern, immersive production style. If this single is any indication of what’s to come, First Class Rebel is a project well worth keeping an eye on.

‘Alive’ kicks in with a 7.5 out of 10

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
