f5ve – have today released their Underground Remixes EP

Japanese girl group sensation f5ve have today released their Underground REMIXES EP, out now via Three Six Zero Recordings.

This electrifying set of remixes sees Underground completely reimagined by a stellar lineup of DJs, producers, and artists; including highly sought-after DJ and producer TeddyLoid, all-star art collective YAGI EXHIBITION, Japanese DJ and producer DJ CHARI & Tokyo-based group STARKIDS, in addition to the previously released Doss remix. Each remix brings a fresh sonic perspective on f5ve’s addictive single, with collaborators infusing their distinct styles and flair into the mix, whether it’s through pulsating electronic beats, infectious new vocals or genre-blurring creativity.

Speaking about collaborating on these remixes, f5ve said: “working with other artists is so exciting! We want to expand our worldview and experience different cultures and perspectives!!!! We keep asking everyone on the internet “can we collab” ! So please let’s make new and fun things together.”

These remixes follow the release of f5ve’s latest single ‘Underground’. Clocking in at 177 bpm, the four-to-the-floor dance track whizzes by faster than a Japanese bullet train as the group express their dissatisfaction with “life that feels like a manual” and a yearning to go underground where “the music is divine and I finally feel alive.” The track is charged with exhilarating energy and features a captivating post-hook “chika chika chika”, a clever word-play in Japanese that signifies ‘under’, ‘electric sounds’ and the sound of a train rushing towards you at full speed. The group celebrated the release of the track with an epic rave in Tokyo’s Shibuya district in collaboration with the notorious underground party KyunDesu – the party was packed out all night long whilst a curated lineup of DJs kept the crowd excited before the debut live performance of Underground by f5ve later that night.

The stunning accompanying video, directed by Charlotte Rutherford (PinkPantheress, Nicki Minaj) and Crystalline(IVE), is a visual feast split into three dynamic sections. The video begins within the repetitive ‘salaryman’ working culture on the subway in Japan, before escaping to the underground rave scene where the girls find liberation. The Tokyo rave section features the group’s signature sharp choreography as they perform a classic Japanese club dance called ParaPara, adding an authentic touch to the vibrant visuals. The final scene features the iconic Japanese DEKOTORA deco trucks and thrilling street racing, with vehicles from the iconic film Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift.
