They say: “This is a song about bad dates and being stuck at the end of a table for two – I think we were all pretty angry when we made it. Also shoutout to the friends that were arguing at the pub that we put at the start of the track.”
“For the video, we wanted to see a dancer bursting with attitude in blank space. We wanted it to be bare and focussed entirely on the performance, just like the song. We called up Soo [Hahn] who put together an incredible idea centred around layers of identity being peeled away; they absolutely crushed it.”
The track follows statement release ‘Everywhere Break’, which saw holybones earn early plays from the likes of BBC 6Music (Steve Lamacq, Tom Ravenscroft & Deb Grant, Emily Pilbeam, Don Letts), BBC Introducing and John Kennedy (Radio X), plus praise from The Line of Best Fit, CLASH (“fantastic”) and Wonderland (“a striking new voice”). Watch the performance here. ‘Everywhere Break’ was also remixed by Stresshead, listen here.
Igniting intrigue in the shadowy corners of London’s underground, the collective are a month fresh from a sold-out show at Peckham Greyhound, having also cultivated a buzz down in Brighton at the Alternative Escape. Recently announced, holybones will appear at Pitchfork Paris (6th November) and Pitchfork London (7th November).
The faceless force released their debut single ‘Dogs’ last year, and were consequently selected as one of BBC 6Music’s Ones To Watch for 2025.
Weaving a tale of hope and disconnection and capturing the feeling of being a young adult lost in the chaos of the city, holybones serve the story, with scenes lifted from the lives around them.
