Emmy Meli – shares the new single ‘Other Things’

Emmy Meli achieved a massive breakthrough moment when her empowerment anthem ‘I Am Woman’ hit charts around the world (including Platinum certification in the US and Silver in the UK), raced passed the 300 million streams landmark, and was highlighted as the main theme song for Meghan Markle’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast. And the Californian artist built on that breakthrough with her debut EP ‘Hello Stranger’. But now Emmy Meli returns reinvigorated and freshly inspired with the February 13th release of her second EP ‘All About Love’, which she today launches with the new single ‘Other Things’

The mark of a great song is how naturally it works in other arrangements, and Emmy proves that point with its accompanying live acoustic video. Filmed in church, it switches the R&B strut of the original for a streamlined, jazz-tinged piano accompaniment which pushesEmmy’s voice to the fore and proves that she can be her generation’s answer to timeless influences such as Barbara Lewis and Minnie Riperton.

Both highly accomplished and brimming with passion, Emmy’s pristine R&B vocal flair demands your attention on the sensual, hypnotic and lean pop beat of the EP’s title track ‘All About Love’. It’s also a song that’s perfectly in tune with the idea of new year resolutions.Emmy asserts that she has or can leave every vice behind her – but the one thing she can’t give up in the thrilling rush of new love.

Emmy says, “All About Love was written while I was 23 and single for the first REAL time in my adult life cause I’d been a serial dater. I was reading All About Love by Bell Hooks trying to find a new perspective on womanhood, my femininity, and feminism, while decentering men from the forefront of my thinking. I discovered a new world of friendship, a new world of self, a new kind of soulmate, and a whole lot of love.”

It makes for an enticing introduction to the ‘All About Love’ EP, produced by Swindle (Ghetts, Kojey Radical, Celeste) – it’s a collection which sees Emmy channelling her inner authenticity and sourcing a new-found wealth of creativity by embracing the idea of the divine feminine. In addition to ‘Other Things’, the EP features the recent tracks ‘The Zoo’ (“What can you do when we live in a world where the men are like animals loose at the zoo?”) and ‘OOH LA LA’ – plus plenty more essential new material waiting to be discovered. Collectively it represents Emmy Meli fully in command of her mind, body and soul regardless of external pressures.
