Emerging alternative artist Ross A. – has unleashed captivating new single ‘Heartland Girl’ you can watch the premiere of the video here before it goes live to the public

A hugely talented emerging singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and voiceover artist with a passion for lyricism, song-crafting and storytelling, Kildare native Ross A.’s singles to date, ‘Some Other Time, Maybe’, ‘Flowing To You, Flowing Through’ and ‘Be OK’ personify his evolution into an act who creates a world in which its listener can become submerged. His upcoming LP, Vestige, showcases a newfound cohesion of sound and iteration.

“His vocals are sublime… A song rich in soul which shows an artist using the full array of his talents… a beautifully constructed piece of music and it ambles along at a really pleasing and relaxing pace. It’s a song you find yourself nodding your head to, getting your chilled groove on with.” – joe.ie praise for ‘Some Other Time, Maybe’.

Formerly Ross Breen, the Irish musician continues to cultivate his reputation as a respected songwriter through extensive radio coverage of his work (RTE Radio 1, Today FM, Radio Nova, Newstalk FM Songwriter of the Year),  TV appearances (RTÉ 1’s The Saturday Night Show) and consistent presence on the live scene and festival circuit (Electric Picnic, Body and Soul, Indiependence).

“…deceptively simple at first, before lifting off to explore new territory… The beautiful love-fuelled song is earnest, yearning and ethereal in its storytelling and is richly elevated by synths and a lush strings section.” Hot Press Magazine praise for ‘Flowing To You, Flowing Through’.

The latest single from the emerging alternative artist is an epic tale set in mid-eighties heartland Americana

Heartland Girl follows the tale of two characters over a multi-year period and is influenced by a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, with its leisurely pace and ample breathing space carrying the listener through the decades, gripped in the fates of the song’s two lead characters.

2025 is set to be a breakthrough year for the Kildare native with his new upcoming ‘Heartland Girl’ set for release May 9th and his album ‘Vestige’ set for release later in May.

To Ross A. Heartland Girl  is a film or novel in song form:

“As soon as I started writing the first verse, the words flowed easily and the story was a straight line I could follow to the end. I like a song you can float away on, walk around in, get lost in and we have an open-ended conclusion here, where the listener can decide the outcome for themselves, depending how they’re feeling.

Its mood is one of wistful nostalgia, while the song’s recollections are tender and poignant. Intuitive, restrained playing from the band allows us to be carried along in flow with the story.

Lyrically, the song takes place in a metaphysical realm of ‘Heartland’ Americana, beginning in the mid-eighties and ending somewhere near present day. We’re drawn in as the narrative unfolds amid a relaxed sonic ambience of subtly played acoustic guitar, drums, bass, piano and pedal-steel atmospherics. Heartland Girl is inspired by the arc of two characters in a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, Love In The Time of Cholera.“I really enjoy the synchronisation between the video and mood of the song, with its narrator flickering in and out of focus, as memories do. The video deals in light and shade, as do the song’s lyrical recollections, alternating between cool clarity and hazy warmth. Simple, uncluttered production was important to me in order to give the linear narrative time and space to breathe”, says Ross A.
