It’s been a long road back for EDEN, and “gggiiiiirrrrlllll” feels like both a qwell deserved exhale and a new spark. It’s an at times soft, glitched-out reintroduction that reminds you why you fell for his music in the first place.
Clocking in at just 1 minute and 49 seconds, it’s not a grand comeback single in the traditional sense, but it doesn’t need to be. True to EDEN form, the track pulls you into its own little world. There’s a distorted beauty to it, fuzzy vocals, lots of textures, and a tempo that leaves more space than answers. This track showcases why Eden is one of the most talented Irish artist of the last decade and I really mean that. This guy can sing, produce, play most instruments and put together different genres seamlessly. He has a huge devoted fan base but is still so underrated.
If you’ve been following his socials or lurking in his subreddit, you’ll know this release has been anticipated for a very long time. He’s recently been open about the darker patches in his life, burnout, isolation, healing, changing management and those experiences bleed into this moment. “gggiiiiirrrrlllll” doesn’t scream for attention; it drifts, almost like a thought you’re trying to hold onto before it disappears. It may be short in length but stick it on repeat and you’ll hardly even notice you’re on your 5th listen in 10 minutes.
Visually, theres also a new video dropping today. This release is part of what is setting up to be a busy summer for Eden as he is set to releases his new Album in the coming months. After years of a lot of silence, cryptic posts, missteps, and regrouping, seeing EDEN return with this kind of clarity is so exciting. And with the new Album on the horizon, it feels like he’s back to himself again. He called this release a new era but one thing is for certain, this is still the same ridiculously talented guy who is nothing like you’ve heard before (in the best way possible).
Welcome back, EDEN. We missed you and give “gggiiiiirrrrlllll” a solid 8.5 out of 10
