Dope Lemon – releases ‘Sugarcat’ single and new album has a release date for May

Dope Lemon—the award-winning project led by acclaimed Australian musician Angus Stone — releases their new single ‘Sugarcat’, the third from their highly-anticipated fifth album Golden Wolf, out 2 May. ‘Sugarcat’ follows previous album singles, including the title track Golden Wolf and follow-up Electric Green Lambo.

To coincide with the release of ‘Sugarcat’, Dope Lemon also shares an accompanying music video.’ Speaking on the music video, Angus says: “The music video was super fun to make. It’s based on a diamond heist, with me ‘hopefully’ sailing off into the sunset with the stolen jewels. It’s a bit of fun.”

Crafted to pull listeners deeper into Dope Lemon’s immersive world, ‘Sugarcat’ represents a new sonic realm within the multilayered odyssey of Golden Wolf. As the third single from the album, it offers another glimpse into its evolving sound—one that effortlessly blends sophistication with carefree swagger. Angus explains: “‘Sugarcat’ moves into a new chapter stylistically for my writing with Dope Lemon. This one’s made to make you move deeper into the daydream we hope to continue creating for our lemon fans out there.”

Blending introspective reflection with expansive sonic landscapes, Dope Lemon’s forthcoming album Golden Wolf offers a unique blend of indie rock and psychedelic soul, showcasing the band at their most honest and vulnerable. The album invites listeners to reflect on the choices they’ve made, the paths left behind, and those still to come. Following four previous studio albums — including the ARIA-nominated Kimosabè — Golden Wolf peels back layers of memory and imagination, crafting a rich, evocative listening experience.

Marking a bold new chapter for Dope Lemon, Golden Wolf shifts from the retrospective themes of Kimosabè to explore what lies ahead. Seamlessly blending sun-soaked rock with shimmering nocturnal grooves, the album encourages listeners to savour the journey rather than rush to the destination. Like a vast desert landscape, it is both stark and stunning — a place where time slows, and you can lose yourself completely.

Golden Wolf will be out everywhere on 2 May 2025 [pre-order here].
