CABL (pronounced “Cable”) release their new single “Reason Why”, the second single from their new EP Dog Collar, out 6 November 2026. They’ll also play Other Voices in Dingle this November as part of the Jameson Music Trail.
“Reason Why” follows September’s “Annie Moore” and takes the EP somewhere darker. Where the first single looked at youth and self-discovery, this one deals with gun violence and school shootings.
The single is taken from Dog Collar, CABL’s second EP, produced by guitarist Luke White and mixed by Dan Fox (Gilla Band). Trading some of the band’s raw, live-wired sound for a dream-pop shimmer, Dog Collar traces the arc from innocence to experience, how youth erodes under the weight of hardship, and how losing that innocence shapes who we become. It follows the band’s debut EP, See You in a Year and a Half (produced by Chris Ryan – Just Mustard, NewDad).
Speaking about the EP, vocalist Ava Durran says: “The main point of the project was to narrate the rapid destruction of innocence in our young people today.” The closing title track looks at the Irish church’s history of abuse and cover-ups, from the Magdalene laundries to decades of child sexual abuse cases. Written in 2022, it has been a fan favourite at their live shows for a while.
The release lands in the middle of a busy run of live dates. Fresh from supporting Man/Woman/Chainsaw in Belfast and Dublin last month, CABL make their Paris debut for tastemaker series They’re Gonna Be Big at Supersonic (Thu 29 October). Back home they support Basht at their sold-out show in The Button Factory, Dublin (Sat 7 November). Later in the month they play free in-store shows at Spindizzy Records, Dublin (Thu 19 November) and Bigmoon Records, Drogheda (Fri 20 November) before heading to Kerry for Other Voices in Dingle (27 to 29 November) as part of the Jameson Music Trail.
Their debut EP earned tens of thousands of Spotify streams and playlist support (New Music Friday, A Breath of Fresh Éire, Alternative Ireland) alongside national radio play from RTÉ 2FM, Radio Nova, 8Radio, LMFM and UCCFM. They’ve supported Pillow Queens, The Scratch, Ulrika Spacek and Robocobra Quartet, toured with Kynsy, headlined sold-out shows at The Grand Social, Sin É, Whelan’s and The Workman’s Club, and played festivals including All Together Now, Ones to Watch and Vantastival.
Describing themselves as “an indie rock band put through a broken dishwasher,” CABL fold shoegaze, emo, pop, nu-metal weight and folk-leaning vulnerability into songs about addiction, fractured family and mental health: heavy truths wrapped in noise, harmony and melody. For fans of DIIV, Title Fight, Elliott Smith, Big Thief and Deftones.
