BIIRD / Absolute Lilt / Sexy Tadhg – live gallery & review from Vicar Street Dublin 24.05.2025

Irish Trad, All Female, Super Group BIIRD have sold out Vicar Street and absolutely smashed the show. Including support from Sexy Tadhg and Absolute Lilt.

From the mind of seven-time All-Ireland champion harp and banjo player Lisa Canny, BIIRD are making their mark on the Irish music scene and empowering woman everywhere with their incredible musical skills and top fashion choices on stage.

Moving the Trad scene forward and taking it out of the 90’s, BIIRD are bringing a new refreshing take on what it means to play Tradition Irish music. Not always a go to amongst all, but recent years have seen a major shift in the Trad current, thanks to bands like Lankum and Kneecap showing that our culture, heritage and language have so much oozing from it, that we no longer have to search outside of our little green isle for inspiration.

BIIRD is made up of 11 Irish woman from all different corners of the island and each one is a main character within the band. An incredible force can be felt when watching BIIRD live.

Last night in Vicar showed us that the Irish Culture is extremely strong. Not only did they sell out Vicar Street, But right before coming on stage, they were playing to as massive crowd in the Guinness store house on the very same day.

The crowed was warmed up first with Sexy Tadhg taking over the entire stage with their larger than life presence and then the Trad continued with Absolute Lilt which is made up of two members of BIRD, Lisa Canny and Niamh Hinchy.

Lilting, a form of traditional Irish singing which mimics (in a way) the tune of a instrument. Born during a time when there was a ban on Irish instruments, the tunes of the time were passed down orally and stud the test of time to this day and thank god it has, because both Niamh and Lisa have an incredible set of pipes on them.

An incredible night full of pride.
