Following tracks ‘Chauffeur’ and ‘Move To Cali’, Australia’s Rum Jungle today share new single ‘Weather’s Better’ – an infectious indie ear worm with breezy harmonies, slacker melody and a breath of freshness drawing on the bands influence of good times, alongside b-side ‘You’re Not My Friend’.
On the track, vocalist and lyricist Benny says: “it’s a tune we had sitting around for a couple of months. It was originally much more of a chiller with some more whacky parts. I had writing it and kind of kept it in the bank until Fraz pulled it back out of the vault thinking it had heaps of potential”
The band showcase their individuality from slick guitar melodies to driving bass lines, whilst the single maintains the cohesive nature that they display live. Lyrically, ‘Weather’s Better’ is about “that feeling you get when you’re cruising down whichever highway is your closest with whichever person is your closest; that feeling of loving life and loving someone else’s company. What the person, anywhere is good”, says Benny.
Returning back to their longtime producer and engineer, Simon Dobson who worked with the band on their Everything Is Easy EP (2022), with creative guidance from the ever manic and compulsive Tasker. Speaking about the process Benny adds: “We ended up taking it to our mate Tasker in his studio on top of an iconic pub in Sydney. It went from chiller to cruiser and we love how it ended up. We took it to Simon who we’ve worked with previously and it became a mish-mash of influences that formed into a Rum Jungle tune.”
‘You’re Not My Friend’ is a b-side that the band had written the night prior to the recording sessions. Of the song Fraz says: “it pays homage to all of the small talk you participate in with people who aren’t your friends”.
Rum Jungle are returning to the UK/EU for a string of shows at Reeperbahn Festival and their own headline shows across the UK including their London show at Village Underground which is on its way to a sell out.
