As we announced yesterday Bren Berry – released the new single “Knives (Heavy Metal Rain) read our review here.

Bren Berry’s latest single, “Knives (Heavy Metal Rain),” offers an exciting preview of his forthcoming debut solo album, In Hope Our Stars Align. Pairing beautiful lyrics with a textured instrumental backdrop, Berry delivers a track that feels both grounded and transcendent—a spiritual journey laced with serious raw intensity.

The song’s lyrical themes explore conflict and resilience, as Berry deftly weaves metaphors like “You don’t bring knives to a gun fight” to reflect on the struggles and sacrifices inherent in fighting for something meaningful. Lines “Fighting words ring hollow” carry a reflective weight, making the song as much about self-realization as it is about perseverance.

Instrumentally, “Knives (Heavy Metal Rain)” is a gets the balance just right. The production, handled by Gavin Glass, layers what feels like spiritual undertones with earthy, visceral elements. The result is a soundscape that feels cinematic yet deeply personal. Berry’s voice, rich and emotive, anchors the track, drawing listeners into its melancholic beauty while carrying the sense of hope the album title suggests.

Critics and radio hosts have rightly praised the single: Philip King calls it “magnificent,” and Eamon Carr describes it as a “lush dreamscape.” It’s a song that is a hit on multiple levels, combining great production, thought-provoking lyrics, and Berry’s unmistakable vocal presence.

“Knives (Heavy Metal Rain)” is a compelling introduction to Bren Berry’s solo work. This track will only help to build anticipation for In Hope Our Stars Align.
