Ane Brun – shares her exhilarating new single ‘Eat The Fruit’, featuring Röyksopp

A bold, emotionally fearless new chapter from one of Scandinavia’s most visionary musical voices.

Acclaimed Norwegian singer, songwriter, producer and independent artist Ane Brun shares her exhilarating new single ‘Eat The Fruit’, featuring fellow Norwegian electronic pioneers Röyksopp. The track is taken from her forthcoming album I Thought We Were The Same, released on 6th November through BMG.

Driven by a bass-heavy pulse, ‘Eat The Fruit’ pushes Brun further into an expansive electronic-pop landscape while retaining the emotional depth that has defined her career. The song captures a restless desire for something more: fruit becomes a symbol of forward movement, self-worth and the courage to reach beyond your comfort zone.

Speaking about the track, Brun says, “Eat the Fruit” is a poetic sister to my track “Hand in the Fire,” which came out in 2023. Both songs circle the same state of mind, one I sometimes find myself in, where I feel like I’m procrastinating and not embracing life or the connections I long for. Perhaps most of all, the connection to myself. It usually brings a deep restlessness, and sends me searching for the why and the how. The answers are many-layered, and it may take me a lifetime to work them out.”

On collaborating with Röyksopp she adds, “It is a dream come true, and hearing my voice and lyrics melt into their signature sound is truly something special. I love how they’ve shaped the song into something dark, entrancing and liberating all at once, and I hope it will fill dance floors, headphones and many, many music-loving hearts around the world. I’m so excited to finally share ‘Eat the Fruit’!”

On working with Brun, Röyksopp say, “She had an idea, she had a vision, and we were lucky enough to be invited into her domain. Ane, as an artist, is a rare creative talent with a one-of-a-kind, signature voice. Working with her has been butter smooth. A privilege.”

EAT THE FRUIT

Returning with her first collection of newly written music in six years, I Thought We Were The Same is a powerful collection of songs exploring trust, identity, betrayal and the remarkable human capacity to rebuild.

Written over three life-changing years, the personal and compelling album marks a striking new artistic chapter for Brun. Expanding the sonic world she established on the acclaimed After the Great Storm, she embraces an even bolder electronic-pop landscape, creating some of the most immediate and emotionally resonant music of her celebrated career.

“With this album, I wanted to experiment with how far I could take my music into a clearer and more pop sound with distinct choruses and hooks without the music losing its nerve,” says Brun.

Previous single and album opener Hold Me, co-written and produced with Norwegian electronic artist ARY, captures the tension between longing and illusion. The lyrics explore two lovers who are both dysfunctional and passionate, driven by an almost primal need for the simplicity of closeness. Neither can leave and neither wants to stay, leaving them suspended in emotional limbo.

That awakening continues into ‘How Can I Hold Your Hand’, a feverish twist on modern R&B featuring Björk collaborator Emilie Nicolas.

At the heart of I Thought We Were The Same lies a universal question: what happens when the people we trust most become strangers? Rather than focusing on a single relationship, the album examines the fragile architecture of trust itself – how it shapes our lives, how easily it can fracture and why, despite everything, we continue to choose connection.

“This album became a way of understanding how deeply trust lives in us,” says Brun. “It’s extraordinary that we continue to trust each other, knowing it can be broken at any moment. That vulnerability is one of the most beautiful things about being human. Maybe we should all be more aware of how valuable it is that someone trusts us.”

For more than two decades, Ane Brun has built an extraordinary career entirely on her own terms. As an artist, producer and founder of her own label, she has earned international acclaim for her unmistakable voice, fearless creativity and uncompromising independence. With I Thought We Were The Same, she once again demonstrates why she remains one of contemporary music’s most distinctive and visionary artists.
