Amyl and the Sniffers take to the stage of a packed out National Stadium. The bastard child of Iggy Pop and Wendy O. Williams doesn’t stay still for a second as she leads her crossbreed of The Stooges, The Dead Boys and AC/DC through a filthy set of high-voltage proto-punk. There’s an Aussie sound that’s distinctly indefinable (The Saints, Cosmic Psychos, The Chats, The Birthday Party, AC/DC) and the Sniffers have it big time. Dirty and basic. One could easily be mistaken for thinking they’re at a 1970s gig. The only thing that differentiates it the absence of gob and beer hitting the stage.
