Al Richardson (former Late City Edition) – has released the new single ‘Not As Much’

Enigmatic Dublin solo-artist Al Richardson returns with new single, ‘Not As Much’.

After emerging on the Dublin music scene in the early 2000s with his band Late City Edition, singer-songwriter Al Richardson has recently returned to writing and recording with a renewed solo focus. Last year, he released his debut solo single, ‘Man Made’, featuring a standout guitar performance from Steve Cradock, followed by second single ‘The Crossings’, earning support from Radio Nova, Dublin City FM, Liffey Sound and more.

New single ‘Not As Much’ marks the third step in his solo journey. Showcasing his seasoned, distinctive vocals over a blend of Mod roots, ’90s British guitar influences, and classic storytelling, Richardson’s sound is one shaped by decades of musical discovery and experience.

With fresh material planned throughout 2026 and a renewed presence on the live circuit, Richardson steps confidently back into the spotlight of Dublin’s alternative music scene, bringing with him his unique sound and honest, timeless songwriting.

On his leap into solo territory and the release of his third single, Richardson says, “I’m really excited to be releasing ‘Not As Much’. After being away from music for quite a long time, I’ve genuinely fallen back in love with the whole process of writing, recording, and releasing songs again – I missed it more than I realised.

Stepping into a solo career was definitely a leap of faith without the usual faces beside me, but it’s also opened up new opportunities to collaborate with incredibly talented people. The sound is different now, and that’s a positive – it’s given me the freedom to explore new styles and directions in my songwriting. It feels like a blank canvas, even if being a solo artist comes with its own challenges.”

On closing his chapter with the band Late City Edition, he adds, “I’ll always treasure the memories of my time with Late City Edition. We were a bunch of misfits making music together – rehearsing, touring, and enjoying the chaos of it all. Those experiences shaped me as a songwriter and musician.”

‘Not As Much’ features Paul Finlay on keys, organ, bass, and drums; Esa Taponen on lead guitar; Jay Ritchie on wah guitar; and Pennylane Richardson on backing vocals, blending indie singer-songwriter honesty with warm acoustic textures before unfolding into a full-scale arrangement that nods to the ’90s rock and Britpop era.

With its cinematic intro and heart-on-sleeve delivery, ‘Not As Much’ recognises Al Richardson’s renewed fire, flair and fortitude, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter with much more to follow.
